Water Resources

Water Resources concerns the availability and constructive use of the earth’s water supplies. It is embraced by multiple disciplines, including engineering, agriculture, environmental science, geography, geology, physical sciences, forestry, and ecology. The most common engineering backgrounds for water resources studies are civil, environmental, coastal and navigation engineering, although mechanical and chemical engineers also work in the water resources area. Our water resources projects include:

Pollutant Fate

We performed a desktop analysis of rates of sediment retention in an impoundment near the Kalamazoo River, Michigan, where decades of PCB discharges have led to sediment contamination and designation of a Superfund cleanup site. We reviewed field studies and numerical modeling results for the river and performed a desktop analysis of fine sediment transport in the river and compared the various results to provide an opinion on how much contaminated sediment was trapped in the impoundment and how much was transported through the system.

River Water Quality

We evaluated water quality conditions in the Ogeechee River, GA, during and after a fish kill. Dynamic Solutions, LLC, developed hydrologic, hydrodynamic, and water quality models of the river and we provided an expert opinion on the effects of an industrial discharge on water quality parameters affecting fish health.

Bonneville Lock and Dam on the Columbia River provides navigation and hydropower to Oregon and Washington.

The Ogeechee River flows through southern Georgia.
